A few years ago, I challenged myself to read a “classic” piece of literature each month of the year, and I ended my challenge that December by reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It was really good! I have seen film adaptations- including the terrific Disney version with Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer- but as simple as the story is there are many quotable gems, like this one I decided to letter and share with you.

I originally did a version of this and posted it on Instagram, but as years have not recovered that original page I penned, I pulled out my iPad this time and made a digital version to share. I have a black/white print and a colored print, with green letters, a gold star, and red baubles mixed within the letters.

And, since Christmas is also a season of giving gifts and therefore cards, I’ve formatted it to a 4″ x 5″ color card as well- just trim on the trim marks and fold in half. I put the image into this mockup that has ripped edges, and I think that’s such a pretty look too!

I imagine this print finding a place amongst photos of kiddos at Christmastime, decorating a refrigerator door next to crayon illustrations and Christmas lists, or alongside a cheerfully wrapped gift that is secretly and regularly shaken by curious children. There is something special about Christmas, but especially for kids! Dickens got it right.

Have you read A Christmas Carol? I suggest the audio version so you can listen while staying busy- if you don’t have the audio version at your library or other audiobook app (it is included in Audible memberships) you can find recordings on YouTube as well. It’s not long, so give it a try 🙂

I hope you are enjoying your Christmas season! Stay tuned for another holiday printable- I know it’s a busy time so I hope to make things easy and beautiful at the same time!
