Introducing… the Broken Lattice Quilt Pattern! One pre-cut I haven’t had a lot of experience with is the Layer Cake, or 10″ pre-cut squares. So when I got my hands on a Creekside Layer Cake on sale, I knew I wanted to try something fun with it- but I wanted to do very little cutting! I’ve been feeling lazy lately 😉
I sat down at my computer and looked and LOOKED for a super easy layer cake quilt pattern, and while there are several out there, none were quite what I was wanting. So, I made my own pattern! This pattern used a “Stack ‘n’ whack” method of cutting the large squares, but even with the cuts the pieces are still nice and big and produce a perfect size throw quilt.
This quilt is basically a lattice-style pattern, but broken into pieces… hence, Broken Lattice. It took me just one afternoon to make the blocks, and then one more to complete the quilt top! I love a fast quilt!
I was able to quilt this one myself with an all-over meander design. My basting skills could definitely use some work- I managed to quilt a pucker into the backing fabric- doh! But otherwise, I’m really pleased with how it all turned out!
The purpose for writing this beginner quilt pattern was for my own use, but then I went and finished it so that I could share it with you too as a Free Quilt Pattern! I hope you can put it to good use. Don’t forget to share your quilts on Instagram- tag me @hellomellydesigns so I can see!
Thank you for sharing such an awesome pattern! I have quite the collection of layer cakes!
Thank you! I have just the fabric for this 🙂
The colors in this quilt are so fun!
