It’s Bughouse time!! This quilt pattern was designed several months ago, but I wanted to release it alongside my new fabric line, Flutter and Shine for Riley Blake Designs. When I was designing and placing all those smaller squares, it made me think of a chessboard, which then led me to research on chess terms… and Bughouse was a clear quilt pattern name winner 😉 Bughouse, in chess, is when 4 players play across 2 chessboards. It is clearly a more exciting game than standard chess, right? So, this quilt pattern is delightful and more exciting than standard quilt patterns, ha! In case you didn’t realize, naming quilt patterns is tricky and is usually very, very loosely based on little inspirations gleamed from the design. Sometimes, its the other way around- some small outside influence inspires a whole quilt pattern!
Anyway, the pattern features a single block, on point and on repeat, and borders to frame the entire thing. It comes in throw, and twin sizes! It is a dream to chain piece.
For the pattern, scrappy would be totally fun, but I went with a repeating block. The fabrics featured are Blooms in Aqua, Trellis in Dark Pink, Cottage in Light Pink, and Ditsy Dot in Navy. I specifically designed the Flight Path fabric with binding in mind, and it’s the perfect playful stripe!
I quilted it with a basic stipple/meander, and pieced the back with various large scraps. This quilt (this is the Throw Size) has been on my daughters’ bed since it came home from Quilt Market in May! It’s been a fun addition to their bedroom.
The pattern is available in my shop now!
