‘Tis the season! The season to break out those holiday patterns so they’re ready for the holidays 😉 And a quick project is definitely preferred during these busy weeks. I know that’s my project threshold when regular life is full!
Today I have a quick and cute project to share with you- complete with free pattern (link at the end of the post!)- so you can make it too, whether it is for yourself or a friend (handmade gifts are so fun!). This pattern requires two of the mini charm packs, or a single 5″ stacker that’s been cut into 84 2.5″ squares, as well as some background fabric and miscellaneous scraps for tree trunks.
The squares are sewn together scrappy-style to make a cute little row of trees. So cute, I decided to name the runner pattern “Charming Tree Farm” because it really is charming and of course, used charm squares 🙂
The runner is a dainty 16 1/2″ x 36 1/2″ so I was able to quilt it on my domestic machine and even got a little creative with that loopy border!
It’s so cute, right? I designed this for my mother-in-law to use, she’s trying to get her toes back into quilting and a small project that uses a little skill too is just right. While I was working up a PDF for her, I decided just to make it available for everyone! Whenever you’re ready for it, you can find it here 🙂
It definitely gets me in a Christmas carol mood.
Taking pictures of this runner reminded me we have NO Christmas decorations of our own this year, but don’t worry- unlike Halloween, the French know how to really rock Christmas! The stores are already in the holiday spirit. I’ll find what I need, no question! And making something for our home was suddenly extra special- the first bit of holiday in our apartment in the familiar medium of quilted goodness.
I hope you can make one sometime soon, or next year, or whatever year, and then share it with me! This is #charmingtreefarmrunner on Instagram.

Happy Quilting!
Can you share what fabric you used for background, backing and binding? I love it just as it is!!
Laura- the background is Riley White from Riley Blake Designs’ Confetti Cottons, and the backing and binding are nameless prints I found here in Paris- no information on the selvage, sorry!
Thank you so much! It is beautiful!
