This I Heart You has been unfairly abandoned on too many occasions, and I was determined to finish it during the COVID-19 Stay-at-home orders. Just a few weeks into the reopening phase is still considered part of the pandemic, right? I say it counts! I think it is good to finish this right now too, I hope we can all speak more love to all people, and we are working on our own refinement of that concept here at home.
The I Heart You pattern is by Pen and Paper Patterns and Then Came June as part of their Holiday Collection. This was my favorite from the bunch, and I knew as soon as I saw it that I needed to have it in our family quilt collection!
The background fabric is actually a cotton/rayon blend from JoAnn Fabrics, a fabric I had intended to make a dress from but suddenly it was much more appealing as a quilt background ;). Because it is a different blend, it frayed a bit more and is a great deal lighter weight than standard cotton. The resulting final quilt is luscious. I made my Daisy Lane quilt with a cotton/rayon blend background too and it is the same delicious weight.
For the hearts, I used the bow print from Little Red in the Woods by Jill Howarth for Riley Blake Designs, and the cute little red fruits are from the Let Them Be Little line by Simple Simon and Co for Riley Blake Designs.
My friend Kelli of Simply Mackbeth did the quilting in the most perfect heart clamshell design. I love how it looks! The I Heart You quilt is a smallish throw size, but since this house is full of smallish people, it is just fine!
As far as this quilt pattern goes, it is definitely beginner friendly. The only piecing technique it uses is snowball corners, or sew-and-flip as it is sometimes called. Beginners can totally do that!
I make autograph quilts for anniversaries and weddings and this is over the top perfect! Sometimes I make the quilt and let people sign it then quilt it but mostly I use nominal quilting in the squares so people can sign using Marvy or Sigma non-washable/non bleed markers. Just adorable!!!!!
This would be a great quilt for that purpose! I think signature quilts are so special, how wonderful you get to do that for others!
It really is adorable! I’m glad you saw fit to finish it! Phase one counts, absolutely. I’m still sheltering in place and I know others are, too. Thank goodness for being a quilter! Don’t think I’d survive otherwise.
It really is nice to have a hobby that allows us to stay safely indoors, but still be social online with others!
