After I finished the Canterbury quilt, I had a lot of leftover fabric from my FQ bundle since there are more than the standard 21 prints in Aneela’s Meander collection. Fortuitously, a friend announced her pregnancy not long after, but will not find out the gender until after I leave France. What a perfect opportunity to break into those unused Meander prints! They are a great neutral blend; pinky corals and calming blues- it works for anyone.
Making the Canterbury quilt required HSTs, and there were a few leftovers when the quilt was all assembled. This was the deciding factor on what the baby quilt would be; HSTs. I cut the fabrics, sewed the HSTs, and had exactly the amount I’d need for a square baby quilt. I even had to do some creative cutting to get the final block. It was meant to be!
I went to Mondial Tissus for some minky backing and took some small scraps with me to get the perfect color- I couldn’t believe the match on this beautiful blue! This baby quilt is destined for a baby due in November, so it will be nice to have something warm right away. Minky is the perfect option.
The arrangement for my blocks was completely based on which seams I could nest 😉 so it has a great scrappy layout. I used leftover strips from the FQs to make the binding, so although its all from the same colorway it is made up of different prints. The finished HSTs were all 6″, so the final quilt is 42″ x 42″, also a great baby size.
My friend is someone who has helped me so much since moving here to France- her English is perfect, and since she spent time in the US she could understand what differences I was facing and how to best tackle the obstacles I’d face as a foreigner here. She is smart and funny and generous, and I will miss her!
I love a good quilting stipple. This one gave me a bit of trouble until I had the tensions adjusted just right- minky is soft and warm and beautiful, but it can be finicky too 😉
I finished this quilt just before everything all got packed away, along with the August Take Ten and another quilt I’ll be posting here soon… I can’t wait to share that one too!
This baby quilt is perfect! I love everything about it. Great use of your remaining fabrics.
