Hi friends! I know we already discussed how I don’t do a lot of Valentine decorating, but I have more Free decorations to share πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Looks like I’m changing my ways! This Freebie comes in the form of a quilt pattern… in 2 sizes! What?? My Free quilt patterns are usually one size only, so you are really in for a treat today. Introducing…

Pinky Promise!

A while ago, I got the idea in my head to make a pattern where an 8-point star block links in and out of itself. Not ground-breaking, but still neat. This block, with the vast negative space in the center, was the perfect candidate. I finally had a moment this month to sit down and put the idea into a computer, and then onto fabric, and I love the result. Especially when done in Valentine reds and pinks!

The pattern discusses three construction methods: Half Square Triangles, Flying Geese, and Snowball corners. A lot of good, basic quilting techniques in this pattern! I’d recommend it for a confident beginner- intermediate quilter. I also say to use scant seams, so read this if you don’t know what that is, or why it’s important on a quilt like this!

I’m truly happy with how this little quilt turned out! I made the tabletop size (or wall size, since I did hang it on my wall for pics and was delighted with how it looked!) in Riley Blake Confetti Cottons, which are so luxuriously soft I think it took me an extra hour to make, after all the times I stopped just to feel the softness of the fabric. If you haven’t tried Confetti Cottons yet… just do it. And you’re welcome. My colors here are Cloud (white!), Riley Red, and Baby Pink.

I used beautiful blue hues for my test quilt (and quilted it in some “modern loops” that are mostly wonky but still a good practice at my FMQ) and it is just as lovely, just less “Pinky” and more like “Blue-y Promise” which doesn’t sound as fun πŸ˜‰ I literally have nothing red in my house except during Christmas and Valentine’s so I will have the blue one out the rest of the year! In the meantime, while we are decking our halls with hearts and reds and pinks… this Little Dolly print (by Elea Lutz for Riley Blake Designs, another Arizona girl!) was just begging to be the backing for my table topper. Perfect, right? And of course, some hearts sneaking into the meander quilting was to be expected πŸ˜‰

The pattern also comes with cutting instructions for a 56.5″ square throw size. It is such a cool, modern design that it will definitely work any time of year, in any fabric, for anywhere. And remember… it’s FREE! Because I love you. Enjoy!
