My brother and sister-in-law welcomed their first little baby this past month, and I wanted to do a quilt pattern that could feature the fabric.
One afternoon, I worked up a quick and easy pattern to showcase the cute fabric from Dear Stella. I loved the ginger bearded sailors and tattooed mermen, and the funny tattoo designs. Perfect for a little boy whose ancestors came from an island home!
I’m calling the pattern Chipped Stacks, because the stack of fabric has blocks with corners “chipped” out of them. Or so I imagined when I named it 😉 And I had to take that picture above because it sort of resembles looking out a port hole, and I’m easily amused these days.
Anyway, the quilt was super fast, easy, (no matching diagonal seams!) and I’ll have a tutorial at the end of the week for you.
For this quilt, I used an assortment of low volume prints to break up the fabrics, and I love the scrappy effect it gave the quilt. I quilted it with some loose organic waves (read: I don’t have the fancy wave stitch on my machine, so I eyeballed it) and it was the perfect choice. I also used this quilting design on my Wishy Washy and I have loved it ever since.
Stay tuned for the tutorial! (Find that tutorial HERE!)
And one more picture, because it’s such a cute quilt!
Love the design and the fabric is awesome. I have been doing Eye Spy Quilts lately for the new generation and I think this would lend itself nicely to that as it already has so many Spy fabrics. I love the Dear Stella fabric, The “Treehouse” and the “Not Ameowsed” are probably the top but you made a great choice with the colors and patterns. Thanks for sharing!
Adorable! This is the perfect pattern for showcasing special fabrics!
