It has been a while since I made clothes for my kids, but as soon as I saw the Sullivan Dress by Abby of Sew Much Ado I knew I HAD to make one. Not just one, Three. It was absolutely the best choice I made in a looooong time!
My 2nd oldest loves anything fancy and grown-up, so of course I went for the maxi length on her. She loves it, and the chambray top still makes it a win for me too.
Girl #3 got the same top, but a knee-length Aztec chiffon skirt. This was probably the favorite… but I didn’t have enough fabric for a maxi and a knee length, so I sold daughter #2 on the fancy floral and no fights occured 🙂
I also love the sleeves! They are like tulip sleeves, except no overlapping involved. Easier- and still gorgeous.
One of my favorite parts about this pattern was the scalloped edge of the top- I’m a sucker for a good scallop, so all 3 girls got it! I love it.
The back is easy to close, even the girls can do it.
But don’t go thinking everyone is happy as a clam about taking pictures…
This one was all done before we even got 3 pictures in! But she’s so cute, we didn’t mind. She kept playing in it (even snagged it! Aargh! Downside of the “fancy” fabric I so love to use in apparel) and cried when I tried to change her clothes.
Taking pictures with three crazy baboons was not easy! It doesn’t help either when my photo shoot helper (husband, aka oldest child ha ha) is encouraging them to make funky faces, and rounds them up for a picnic lunch after 8 photos. He is still in training. 😉 I forgot how fun and fulfilling it is to sew clothes for my little girls. My oldest daughter didn’t get one this time but she has been so spoiled with mom-made clothes in her life, she was willing to submit the fun to her sisters.
Moral of this story: Sullivan Dress. Love it. I’ll make it again for sure.
Those dresses are really pretty! I love the fabric combinations you used. Also, HOW are your daughters so big already?! I’m delighted to see you back in blogland! =)
Ha ha! Thanks Charity. My kids are just very disobedient, I tell them to stop and they keep growing anyway. Rude. 😉
How pretty the girls look in these beautiful dresses! The photos are great too.
