I’m so thrilled to invite you to join me for a new Block challenge here on my website in the coming year- I’m calling it Take Ten. During this challenge, I’ll be sharing instructions for quilt blocks based on 10″ precut squares, plus fabric requirements to complete the quilt top. All the full quilt instructions will have a full 42 blocks, the same number of squares in a precut. The block sizes themselves will vary because size depends on cuts and seams within each block.
The block challenge is going to be pretty relaxed; I really just want to be sharing my ideas that I’ve had without the pressure of a full quilt pattern every month. And I want others to get something out of it too, so we feel like are working on it together!
I really think 10″ squares are a great compromise for precuts, since they include a sample of each fabric in a collection, but they don’t take up a lot of room in the sewing room. With some background fabric, the quilt can be a pretty good size too.
I’ve already made good use of the precut in the past (as shown in the photos, click on the photo for the associated post) and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon! With this block challenge, I’m also challenging MYSELF to use the fabric I have here in Paris so I can leave at the end of our stay with a collection of quilt tops instead of stacks of fabric. I’m really excited to start!
Tune in on the first Friday of every month, I’ll have a new bog post here on the website detailing the newest block. It will run from January – December 2023. If you follow along on Instagram and Facebook, use the hashtag #taketenblockchallenge so we can check our progress together!
Sign up for the newsletter if you want to get information on each month’s block straight to your website.
See you on January 6 for our first Take Ten quilt block!
I am excited to join you for this challenge. I have tried to follow along with several quilt a longs but always fall behind. Yours looks very doable and I appreciate that I can use fabric I already have on hand. Fun!! I’m looking forward to January.
I am looking forward to joining in on your challenge. I think 10” are the perfect pre-cuts. They are so versatile, hst, 5” and 2 1/2” pieces. I have so many to play with including printed ones and solid ones.
