I think the thrill of picking a block name is half the fun of this block challenge. August’s block has been dubbed “Grapevine” and I typed it out with a big smile on my face. To me, this block looks like it’s in a leg crossover move in the Electric Slide dance, hence Grapevine! Ah, so fun. Boogie Woogie Woogie!
Okay, so this month is a great 10″ finished block. It’s pretty easy, only a few HSTs to make per block and the cutting is easy to! Break out your Stripology ruler for the background pieces, and you’ll be churning out blocks in no time.
We are currently packing to move back to the US a bit earlier than planned (long and boring story, business blah blah blah) and I was able to get 16 blocks done in an afternoon before I packed away all my sewing stuff. Not a bad start, and it’ll be waiting for me when the unpacking begins.
I’m using Rifle Paper fabric, with a chambray linen background. It looks really nice together, a very dressed up casual block!
Each block needs (3) 6.5″ x 2.5″ strips and (6) 2.5″ x 2.5″ squares from each 10″ square. It also needs (14) 2.5″ x 2.5″ background squares. You’ll have a nice little stack of 2.5″ print squares as leftovers, perfect for a mini pack to make a small pillow or bonus project.
Four of the squares from each will be sewn together to make HSTs. Then, to make it easy on myself because the HSTs need a specific orientation, I just set out each block in the layout and sewed the rows together.
There are a lot of seams on each side of the block, so following pressing instructions will help nest seams easier and improve accuracy.
The star design that emerges when the blocks are all collected together is so fun! I love it. It is the jazz hands at the end of the dance number, right!?
I can’t wait to see this all put together! The 16 blocks I made already are so lovely all together. This fabric line doesn’t have very many prints so it is less scrappy looking with the repeating prints appearing more often in the quilt. It’s going to be great.
I’ve got the quilt mocked up in the Evermore line, and it’s so pretty!
And here it is in Swan Serenade, with the dark blue background. Obviously I love blue backgrounds, blue is my absolute favorite color and will use it however I can!
I hope you enjoy this month’s block!
September’s block will probably be a week late as we don’t get to move into our rental home until the end of this month. I apologize in advance for the tardiness, but life threw us a curve! Right now, all our furniture has been sold so I’m sitting on the floor of an empty sewing room typing this post π I am glad I got August ready before things got packed away! It’s pretty good timing, though, since I am all out of background fabrics and was having a hard time finding what I needed for the September block. We will miss Paris but I will enjoy having fabric readily available!
Happy quilting π
Wow, best wishes with the move. I wish all in your family a big cup of resilience with bites of happy attitudes. I love your blocks. Thanks for sharing. β€
I hope the move goes smoothly!
Love this block. Safe π travels back home πΊπΈ.
