The older I get, the fewer friends my age are having kids, so when I hear one of them is having a little miracle I get so excited! When I got news several months ago from a friend, I immediately started planning a quilt for her. Later, she straight up asked me to make one for her, ha ha! I was happy I already had an idea in the works. I ran into a problem when the fabric I ordered got stuck in transit during the floods in Houston (for which I couldn’t really complain, it just set me back a little) so I didn’t get moving on it as fast as I hoped. Luckily I had figured out the quilt in plenty of time and I got it finished before the baby came! Win!
I used the fabric Vintage Daydream by Design by Dani for Riley Blake Designs for this quilt, and it was perfect. The little recipient’s mom wanted “pink” but I also wanted this quilt to grow up with the baby as she got older, so this line was the perfect mix of adorable and mature.
I chose the quilt block “Katie’s Choice” and mixed it up just a bit with the center square. I’m sure there’s another name for this block with the center but I haven’t uncovered it yet. I’ll share a tutorial for this block soon! (ETA: Here’s that tutorial: Katie’s Choice Quilt Block Tutorial)
I used leftover fabric from the FQs to make a scrappy binding, which I have done twice now this year and I love it! Kelli of Simply Mackbeth quilted it in a very feminine flower design, which is a perfect echo of the floral backing.
I’m so pleased with this quilt!!! I want one for myself now. The blocks were so easy to make, and I loved thinking about my friend and her sweet family while making this quilt. It is big enough to fit over a toddler bed (approx. 42″ x 54″), and of course as a kid’s throw, so it should be good for a long time! I hope she loves it.
